How to Become a Physician Assistant
Physician assistants can do everything a licensed physician can do; therefore, this career is cost effective and economical. Although PAs practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed doctor, they can be somewhat limited to what they do. They must be determined to complete schooling and continue their education to keep current with the changes made in the medical field (Morkes 249).
The education necessary for this career is rigorous. PAs are required by most states to complete a program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) (Morkes 250). A Bachelors degree in science is helpful, but not required for entering PA school (Morkes 250). PA school lasts for two years. Of those two years, six to twelve months consist of instructed classroom work with the last fifteen months of the degree being supervised clinical work (Morkes 250). The clinical work consists of rotations with a physician who may consider hiring one as his/her PA
