Depression doesnt just hurt you, it hurts the people around you the people who mean the most. This couldnt be more true if you are a mother and the main caregiver to an infant or an impressionable young child. These days, it is fairly common knowledge that women experience a flux in hormones after giving birth. This can cause the Baby Blues in up to 80% of new mothers (Bennett, 2003). The Baby Blues is a mild form of depression that typically will last from a few hours to three weeks after the baby is born (Bennett, 2003). Because the Baby Blues do not last for extended periods of time, it does not have long-term effects on the baby (Bennett, 2003). But what happens when a mother has severe depression?
