The most popular recreational drugs in America today are alcohol and marijuana. Both are highly addictive mind-altering substances; however, alcohol is a physical addiction whereas marijuana is a psychological addiction. Alcohol is a legal substance and marijuana is illegal. Each drug has adverse effects on the users health and well-being. Although, these effects bear some similarities, they vary in certain degrees.
Alcohol is consumed by the individual in liquid form as either beer, wine, liquor or a wine cooler. The alcohol enters the blood stream through the digestive track in the first foot of the small intestines. Marijuana is commonly smoked but can also be baked into food products. The smoke enters the lungs and is immediately absorbed into the blood stream. When baked in food, absorption does not occur until the latter two-thirds of the small intestines: the jejunum and ilium.
The legal consequences associated with alcohol and marijuana use or distributions tend to be rather severe. Penalties resulting from alcohol use may include Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI), ......
