The Snowy Owl
Primarily an arctic species, Nyctea Scaniaca can be found living in northern
Canada. Theyre found here breeding, taking car of young, and hunting. Snowy owl, one of the worlds largest owl species, is a fascinating creature in many different ways.
Snowy owls appearance is very interesting. The male and female differ from each other. The male is almost pure white. Most males weigh about four pounds. Female snowy owls are white and densely spotted brown. The female owls are about one pound larger than their mates. Both male and female have large eyes in front of their head. They have razor sharp talons. Body length is 54-66 cm. long. They have a large wingspan of about 135 cm.
The adaptations of the snowy owl are different from other birds. The snowy owl has very good camouflage. During the winter, it mostly turns white to blend with its surroundings. In the summer it turns to a browner color to blend with rocks and dirt. They also have large eyes fixed in front of their head. This makes the owl have to turn their head almost completely around.
