Animal Dreams Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Memories and thoughts of the past and the present can control an individual and effect their future and their happiness. Throughout Animal Dreams Codi struggles with untangling her memories of the past in Grace and finding her sense of belonging. Her warped memories and thoughts made her believe that she had no place to belong, and was a nobody without anyone to love her. A large theme in this novel is one of family and belonging to a community. In Grace’s tight nit community, everyone is related and knows each other, yet Codi feels like an outsider in the very town she grew up in. Knowing ones history and belonging to a community is essential to one finding ones purpose in life and until Codi figures out her family history and allows herself to be connected to Grace, she continues to feel as though she is merely drifting through life. Codi’s perception of reality, a reality where she didn’t belong anywhere, is proven to be incorrect many times throughout the novel and yet Codi ignores these signs throughout most of the story and therefore contributes to the theme of community by ......
