Prejudice is the act of separating two distinct things by sex, age, culture, etc. in a negative manner. The three essential characters, who, in reality, are innocent, are victims of prejudice in Maycomb County. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, the three mockingbirds, Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, and Dolphus Raymond experience racism, isolation, and sexism in their town of Maycomb, Alabama. This is a result of the racism during the 1930s period. Prejudice is a widely accepted belief in Harper Lee's novel, as it is a reoccurring theme that is centered around the plot. Lee shows evidence of prejudice in the novel through the words and actions of certain characters.
The theme of racism is evident throughout the whole novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. Based in 1930s prejudice, Lee reinforces through her characters the prejudice in human interaction in Maycomb, Alabama.
