Wal-Mart and America Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Wal-Mart has become one of the largest most powerful companies in the country by offering low prices. Low prices is not the only positive aspect Wal-Mart brings to a community, it also offers employment opportunities. However, upon closer examination of the company’s business practices it becomes apparent that Wal-Mart is slowly eroding the American way of life. Despite its perceived benefits, Wal-Mart has a sinister side, which is evidenced through its disparate treatment of employees. Wal-Mart needs to own up to its purported image of having family values by offering competitive wages and halting violations of its minority employee’s civil rights. Arguably, any company that brings jobs to a community is beneficial. When a Wal-Mart moves into a community thousands of jobs are created thus rejuvenating the commerce of an area. However, it is these jobs that harm the very community, which is intended to benefit.
