SOCIAL Religion was still very influential in the 1920s and Milne’s did not believe that violence or force was at all a solution. He has been described as a pacifist (Piglet (Winnie-The-Pooh, [Online]), which I think resides in Piglet’s timid nature (Tucker. 2002). He is literally afraid of confrontation and therefore avoids it as much as possible. A. A. Milne served in the First World War, although this was a reluctant and voluntary move according to his biography (1990), due to his disposition of moral conflict. He had even spoken out against the fact that his country was involved in the war saying, “War is the most babyish and laughable idiotic thing that this poor world has evolved” (Thwaite. 1990). This rational way of seeing the war in my opinion is reflected in the somewhat safe and isolated storylines of Milne’s children’s books. Piglet has many similarities to the League of Nations, which was established in 1920 to keep the peace in international relations (Walters. 1952). People at the time did not consider this to be an effective measure to keep the balance......
