Political scientists have usually offered one of two alternative perspectives for explaining the frequency and nature of military intervention in developing countries. The first perspective looks into the internal characteristics of the armed forces with the second focuses on the broader political environment that in which the military operates, and the weakness of the civilian regimes.
In early research on Third World politics, a lot of the analysts maintained that the armed forces take pleasure in greater organizational cohesion and clarity of purpose than did civilian political institutions, therefore their desire for intervention.
