A quincenera is considered a coming of age for young Latina women and the so-called el cambio de vida or the change of life. (Norma Cantu) To the Latin community the quincenera is a big thing to the young women of the community, being from the valley is seems that it is a little bit more important to the families and girls.
Now a day the ritual is a bit different compared to the way a quincenera was in the earlier years. To maybe start off with the dress color is somewhat an argument now between the mother and daughter. In the present day many girls want to get bright colored dresses instead of getting the usual pink or pastel colored dress.
