Who do we know Jesus Christ to be? More importantly, how do we understand what it is that made Jesus the charismatic historical figure we know him to be today? Marcus J. Borg tells us that Jesus was man of humble beginnings that lived the life of a carpenters son. The extraordinaries of his life did not become apparent until later. But how can we define his actions and teachings as extraordinary, didnt Jesus just preach what he believed to the moral right? Yes, but what made Jesus an astounding teacher was that he challenged the conventional wisdom of the first century Jewish social world. This blasphemy exposed humanity to a new image of reality and in doing so, proclaimed the way of a spiritual and mental transformation.
