Uses of a Liberal Education Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Mark Edmundson is a college professor at the University of Virginia, who writes several pieces on literacy and culture. In his essay, On the Uses of a Liberal Education, he worries about students and how they value education. Students today arent being educated to retain knowledge that will help them later in life. To them that is just an extra perk. Rather, students go to college to be entertained. This offends Edmundson as a professor. He teaches his students and receives great feedback, but want he finds is that his student find his little one-liners or off- wall-questions more important than the material he teaches. Edmundson contemplates several different causes for this effect and soon comes up with consumer culture in society as the blame.
