The period of 2001-2009 was a turbulent, rocky road for the former Texas governor and 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush. He was able to implement a large proportion of his policies while also suffering setbacks.
In the simplest means of measuring success, Bush has been a reasonably successful President. In the 2002 Midterm elections, the Republicans made a net gain of 8 seats in the House of Representatives and increasing their Senate majority by 2. This allowed President Bush to increase his control of Congress, making it easier for him to pass legislation. In 2004, he increased his mandate gaining 50.7% (up from 47.9% in 2000) in the presidential election. He also won New Mexico & Iowas electoral votes but losing rural New Hampshire, the Republicans last stand in New England. They also made gains in the House (a swing of 5) and made a lot of head-way in the Senate gaining a large 6 seats.
