How does John Steinbeck show the theme of loneliness in the novel Of Mice and Men? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The novel Of Mice and Men was written by John Steinbeck and tells the story of George Milton and Lennie Small, two migrant farm workers in California during the great depression. The great depression was a period of time in the 1930s when immigrants all dreamt of a better life in America. The novel is very realistic because it is based on Steinbeck’s own experience growing up on a ranch in the 1920s. Racism is one of the issues explored in the book. A lot of characters use the word ‘nigger’ – “where the hell id that god damn nigger?” But I think reading it helps us understand the terrible things black people went through and how, since then, the world has definitely changed for the better. The novel is very much like a cycle. The first and last chapter start in almost identical ways and through out the book the beginnings and endings of chapters have similar structures. I think this is a hidden portrayal of the theme loneliness because it is showing the characters lives are very much like a cycle in that they will always be lonely and there life at the ranch just goes round a......
