The problem with Americans today is that we are all so darn greedy. Americans are not inherently greedy, and so each individual is not completely at fault. We are greedy because we have let a system of formal organization, that tells us making money is more important than any one person, thrive and spread all over the world. This formal organization is called a bureaucracy. By definition a bureaucracy is a formal organization with a hierarchy of authority and a clear division of labor, with an emphasis on written rules, communications, and records, as well as an impersonality of positions. A bureaucracy can be identified by five characteristics, but keep in mind these are the characteristics of an ideal bureaucracy and not all bureaucracies will have all of these characteristics. First there are clear levels of management, with assignments flowing downwards and accountability flowing upwards. Next is an obvious division of labor.
