In the short story The Ugly Truth About Beauty, written by Dave Barry, the author supposes that women try to look a certain way because thats how men want them to look. To that he had two responses. The first response is that men are idiots and that doesnt mean women have to be as well, and the second being that men dont notice 97 percent of the efforts women put into beauty. More importantly than that though is the question why do women have such low esteem?
The problem with women today, lies with all the little girls today. From a young age, little girls play with dolls and barbies that leave lasting impressions on how a women should look. As they grow just a bit older, they see on television what a women should dress like according to society. When they get to high school, their image of what a women is and how they look is distorted almost beyond repair. One of the reasons why women have such low self esteem is because society says they have to look a certain way, and dress a certain way, and way x amount of pounds. Its wrong.
