The Crusades, Battle of Hattin, 1187
In late June, Saladin, the King of Syria, brought together a huge army and crossed the Jordan River to wage war against the land of Juda. The Latin states were coming together to face Saladin. Raymond III of Tripoli did not agree with what was going on within their own group of Lords and made alliances with Saladin, the enemy, to protect his country. Even though there was no trust between the Latin leaders, they gathered and prepared for war. The King of Jerusalem gathered his armies and set up camp. He was joined by the Templars and Hospitallers, The Count of Tripoli and Galilee, Prince Reginald of Montreal, Balian of Naples, Reginald of Sidon and the lord of Caesarea in Palestinel along with all of their armies came to this camp. Every man fit to fight was called upon. The King of England supplied money to hire mercenaries and pay everyone to help with the war with Saladin.
