Does 83,607,000, seem like a big number? Thats the world's total for barrels of petroleum used per day in 2007. For many of you this is a shockingly high number, others may say it looks like a big number but sadly its the status quo. For those of you who see things in that perspective, it calculates to around 30,516,555,000 barrels used that year. Shocking as this may be, this is not the first year that we have used this much oil, nor will it be the last. If the world keeps using oil at the rate we are now, in the year 2030 we are projected to use 112,500,000 barrels per day, which would be 41,062,500,000 barrels per year. (EIA Petroleum Data) Any person using any common sense knows that obviously the world will run out of oil eventually, but if we continue to use oil this rapidly we may run out someday soon. There are many reasons why our oil usage is so high, and nobody has any right to point fingers, the bottom line is it needs to stop.
