Throughout America’s history, men and women of the African American race have struggled to gain equality. Different tactics were used by civil rights activist to try to eliminate discrimination. Progress was made by increasing awareness of the civil rights movement with events like the March on Washington, Little Rock Nine, and Montgomery Bus Boycotts. Support came from as near as the White House and as far as Asia where the leader Mao Tsetung stated, “On behalf of the Chinese people, I wish to take this opportunity to express our resolute support for the American Negroes in their struggle against racial discrimination and for freedom and equal rights” (qtd. in Eyes). However, more supporters were needed to conquer racism. One assemblage of the population who under no circumstances would have considered becoming allies with civil right activists was the Ku Klux Klan.
