Dining with Friends
Thanksgiving is hardly a traditional holiday in Jamaica. In fact it is mainly recognized by only religious groups, who see it as a day to give God thank for all that he had done. Although it is not much of a significant occasion to us, the saying when in Rome do as the Roman do, applies to many Jamaican living in the United State. To us, we use this opportunity to gather for a reunion, a day of thanks and festive meal. Often time individual or families may have two or more invitation to join other families for the day.
Last year, my family decided to celebrate it with a twist and at our place of origin. It is not often that I get a chance to visit one of Kingstons finest restaurants. What is even more pleasant and interesting is the fact that I was with people that I care about, close friends and family. To top it off we were all getting a break from kitchen duties on what is consider the busiest kitchen day of the year.
