12 Angry Men Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
There have been many social influences in society since the beginning of societies themselves. This paper will only include those happening in the movie 12 Angry Men. Many happened more than one time in the movie but this paper will only address the most important in the movie.
The first concept that will be addressed is conformity but before we do this, we must first define what a norm is. A norm is an unwritten rule or expectation for how group members should behave. We see how people conform to group norms in the first vote. The foreman calls for all those in favor of guilty and right away eight or nine hands go up and then a couple more. The foreman is counting the hands and all the jurors are looking around the table at one another and then slowly juror 9 starts raising his hand as if he were only voting guilty because everyone else was voting that way. The fact, that to have a verdict, all votes must go either guilty or not guilty set the stage for conformity.
