The 18th century was a time that wars and revolutions were taking place, especially towards the
end of the century. England and France were fighting a war against each other every couple of years.
As the 18th century was coming to an end, the French Revolution was taking place and Napoleon
Bonaparte played an important part during the French Revolution considering he was a general.
Napoleon fought in fourteen campaigns: five in Germany, two in Africa and Asia,
two in Poland and Russia, one in Spain, and two in France. Napoleon was born in 1769 in
Corsica, which at this time was already under the control of France. His name at birth was
actually Napoleone di Buonaparte but he decided to change it to make it more French
sounding to Napoleon Bonaparte.
His father, Carlo Bonaparte, was a member of a magistracy in Corisca which was
intermediate stage toward membership of the supreme coumcil of the nation. In 1779,
Carlo was appointed deputy by the estates of Corsica and made a deputy in Paris, where
