An Analysis of The Persistence of Memory - Salvador Dali Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Salvador Dali did a painting called The Persistence of Memory in 1931. At the top of the picture is a background that is cool, calm and serene. The colors are golden yellows, whites and blues that make up the top third of the painting. There is a cliff on the right side of the painting near the top that is bright yellow and inviting in looks. It meets the sea and the sky which are painted with whites and blues and just a little yellow to tie it to the cliffs. In the foreground, covering nearly two thirds of the lower part of the canvas, the base color is dark. It looks depressing and does not have a lot of detail. It is a direct contrast from the top. It has a block type shape on the left side of the painting that almost looks like a platform with a dead tree sticking out of the top of it. The colors in this block are similar to the dark area yet they possess a touch of warmth in their color from the cliffs. Draped over the branch of the tree, which has the top broken off of it, is a clock that appears to have melted in the hot sun. There are two more clocks on the block platform......
