Jury of her Peers vs Trifles Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The short story “A Jury of Her Peers” and the play “Trifles” are both written by Susan Glaspell. Although one is a short story and the other a play, both works share a common plot. This is because Glaspell first wrote the play “Trifles” and a year later she adapted it as the short story “A Jury of Her Peers”. The two stories explore the theme of differences of gender roles between men and women in the early 20th century. The plot of “A Jury of Her Peers” and “Trifles” revolves around the murder of Mr. Wright and his suspected killer, his wife, Mrs. Wright. The narration of” A Jury of Her Peers” is third person omniscient point of view. The story begins with three men and two women going to the Wrights’ farm house. The three men are; the county attorney, Mr. George Henderson; the sheriff, Mr. Henry Peters; and the neighbor of the Wrights’ family, Mr. Hale. The two women accompanying them are Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale. Mr. Hale accounts everything he saw the previous day at the Wrights’ household to Mr. Henderson and Mr. Peters.
