European countries were so successful in expanding because they already had the lead in industrialization. They had the technological advantages and practice. They also had the biggest army and navy at the time. Europe was the biggest industry country that told over colonization were they saw opportunity.
However not all countries were successful in expanding like European countries. The main declining empires included Turkey and China. Trade worsened the countries social, economical, and political stability. Socially, the new wealth involved with trade widened the gap between the social classes. It also increased the tension between people who wanted to reform and be like the Europeans versus the people who were traditionalists and wanted to remain the same. Trade also drew light on the fight between people who wanted a bigger role for religion oppose to those who believed religion should have no or little role.
