Pliny, Letter to Fuscus Salinator The Daily Life of an Upper-Class Roman was very good piece of writing, reflecting a lot about the Roman society at the time. During this time the early empire was flourishing. The empire was expanding, Cities were huge, the military was a huge force; romanizing provinces allowing upper-class and political membersÂ’ time to take vacations as Pliny did. Upper-class Romans and politicians had a very easy and pleasant life, focused on their political and social standings. Slaves and workers were there to help, but concerns and complaints over looked and not entertained. The first aspect that stands out is the fact that when Pliny wakes up he prefers to keep the shutter closed so that he feels less distracted. The Roman politician, when not on vacations, was no doubt was under a lot of stress. Attempting to please his people and have himself heard in the cutthroat world of politics back then could have been very stressful.
