When I utter the phrase "back home", or when people hear my accent, they always ask where home is. Well, I guess the answer to that question would depend on your definition of home. "Back home" means down south, more specifically North and South Carolina. I have to make them one place, because that's just how it was in my life. My mom was quite the nomad. On the other hand, I have been in Washington for more than twenty years. So, now, home is here in Sumner, Washington. Sumner is very much like the little towns that I grew up in. So, in essence I am still living as though I were "back home". I've often heard it said, you can take the girl out of the south, but never the south out of the girl. And the older I get, the more I believe that statement.
One of the things I remember most fondly is the beach. more specifically,Myrtle Beach. I had a single mom, so vacations were a rarity for us, but somehow she managed to get us to the beach every summer. I learned many things at the beach.
