Bride and Prejudice Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

This Bollywood film is a remake of Jane Austen’s classic story. Mr. and Mrs. Bakshi live in Amritsar, India with their four unmarried and young daughters Jaya, Lalita (Aishwarya Rai), Lakhi (Lucky), and Maya. Mrs. Bakshi is keen to find rich fitting husbands for her unmarried daughters so that they live comfortably after marriage. Balraj visits Amritsar for a friend’s wedding from London and brings along his sister Kiran and his American friend William Darcy (Martin Henderson). Mrs. Bakshi is hopeful to see two rich unmarried men and hopes that they like her daughters. Balraj and Jaya feel an instant love for each other, but Lalita is not too impress with William’s attitude towards India and Indians. Although she can’t stand William, she also can’t get him out of her mind. William also feels the same about her and circumstances make them chase one another three countries (The U.S., The U.K. and India).
