Difference Between Truth and Reality in Ron Carlson's Stories Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

It has always been very difficult to distinguish between what is reality and what is not. In the same sense, it can be just as difficult to distinguish between what is the truth and what is a lie. In the four short stories by Ron Carlson,“Bigfoot Stole My Wife,” “I Am Bigfoot,” “The Tablecloth of Turin,” and “What We Wanted To Do,” the idea of what people will believe to be true and what people will believe to be a lie comes up. In all four short stories Carlson attempts to build up what seem to be true events by using credible, and sometimes even historically correct, examples. By doing so, Carlson gives a certain degree of truth to the stories he tells, even though they are, in fact, not true. In reality, the differences between truth and lie are not so clear. Distinction between something that is true and something that is not true is often subject to the objectivity of the person deciding on what to believe as truth and what to believe as a lie.
