Does the end justify the means? Is dropping an atomic bomb and in the process taking thousands of lives to end a war justified? The dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki is justified by the amount of lives it saved, the bombs took less lives then what it would have taken to take Japan by invasion as Churchill states "To quell the Japanese resistance man by man and conquer the country yard by yard might well have required the loss of a million American lives and half that number of British. Because of the bomb, that nightmarish picture vanished" . The estimates for US casualties were high; however, the Japanese casualties were estimated to be even higher than the allies because of their "death before dishonor" tactics. Regardless of the fact that an invasion would be more costly in human lives for both sides then the dropping of the atomic bombs there are people that believe the Truman administration used the Atomic bombs for political reasons such as intimidating the Russians, and that there were alternatives to the atomic bombs that would have also yielded a Japanes......
