What Lessons are Learned by Lear Throughout the Course of the Play Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Knowledge is considered the most valuable of all things in the world. Its importance is held above gold, natural resources and in many cases even human beings. This is largely due to the course of action needed to obtain this said information. Usually an individual must undergo much unpleasantness and make numerous mistakes in order to capture this valuable attribute. This ideal of gaining knowledge through tragedy is the main theme in the play King Lear by William Shakespeare. Although this novel revolves around the steady and unrelenting downfall of Lear, it could be argued that there are subtle high points where he learns of a new principle. The main lessons he learns throughout the course of this performance are the fact that he is not of godly status, all that glitters is not gold and forgiveness is ever present for those who truly repent and wish for it. These are extreme morals that this character must learn, and unfortunately through his previous decisions in life, he created a much rougher path then necessary to gain knowledge of these viable lessons.
