Gender Differences Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The stereotypes attached to men who work in childcare or elementary are starting to hurt our children, families, and people around us. It is very important that gender diversity is implemented into our daycares and schools because it requires careful management and attention in organizations (Osland et al, 2007, 430). Nation wide women make up over half of our providers and teachers. The percentage of men in these fields is low. With the number of children today who are fatherless and have no male figure in their lives, the only ones we are hurting is them. Exactly why? What don't males want to work in this field?
There are three major reasons behind why there are so few men in schools and daycare settings. The first reason is pay. Teachers and childcare workers do not make huge salaries. In Peter Maurer's (2006) article entitled, "Schools need male teachers in classrooms," he states that "it takes many teachers decades to reach the top of their pay scale."
