By the time a person has turned 40 they will have seen well over one million television commercials, therefore being an influential part of peoples life's. Some people consider television commercials as one of the biggest forms of deceit in our world today. The goal of an advertisement is to make something look the best, even though that might not be the case. For instance, in fast food commercials even though the food might not be five star meal quality, the food looks good and the people in the commercial look happy eating it. It is this type of deceit that makes people think that political advertisements should not exist. In Amusing Ourselves To Death by Neil Postman, Postman writes how television ads have devastated political discourse in this country. He feels that television presents politics as a beauty contest, and has changed politics into a business of deceit.
The goals of all television commercials are to get the consumer to buy or do what the seller wants any way possible. To do this you have to either make your product look the best, or make the competitors product......
