In this essay I am going to analyze two different poems both based on the concept of world war one. Dulce et decorum est is a poem written by Wilfred Owen to show what war was really like and how it effected the lives of the soldiers. The soldier written by Rupert Brooke describes the soldiers love for England and how he is fighting for England. I will analyze the two pieces in terms of content and purpose, point of view, tone, and imagery. Dulce et decorum est was written by Wilfred Owen to express his anger towards those who send young men to war, to fight battles which aren't theirs to fight. He does this by shock and fear to show what war is really like, to show what the youth were blindly sent into. He uses lines like "blood come gargling from the froth- corrupted lungs." Theses lines really shock the reader and show how gruesome and horrifying war is. The message that Owen is trying to project is very clear.
