Abstract There is a difference between leadership and management. Strategic management is the top executive level and it is meant to make the decisions for the good of the company. There are four different functions of management. These four functions are important steps with creating and developing a company's long-term mission. First, planning is used to identify why the organization exists. Second, organizing gives the company structure and job enrichment. Third, leading has many types of skills and tactics to influences personnel to get the job done. Fourth, controlling maintains standards by adhering to discipline and by taking corrective action. Without the executive level, the company would not have a mission, a strategic plan, or any direction. When all of the functions of management are applied, the direction of the company can move forward with its long-term objectives. There are many variations between a leader and a manager.
