Tess of the D'Urbervilles Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

I have read "Tess of the D'Urbervilles and now I will be explaining who is to blame and who is responsible for Tess' downfall and how Thomas Hardy uses Tess to show different aspects of Victorian Society. "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" was written by Thomas Hardy and published in 1891. Thomas Hardy was born in Dorchester on June 2nd 1840 and he died in 1928, aged 88. After many of his tragic novels with each one becoming even more gruesome he finally gave up and went to write poetry, he became a very successful poet, and he also acknowledged himself as a poet. He wrote some famous novels like; "Far from the Madding crowd" (1874), "Return of the Native" (1878), " Master of Casterbridge"(1886) and "Jude the Obscure" (1895). Tess is a story about seduction, rape and betrayal. Alec (Stoke - D'Urberville) may be to blame for Tess' downfall because he either "raped or "seduced" her. After the incident, she leaves 4 weeks later, which is how long the menstrual cycle last, so this is around the time that Tess finds out that she is pregnant, so she leaves without giving a reason to Alec so he......
