The sexual response cycle is a term used to describe changes in the bodies of men and women during sexual arousal. This cycle has four stages or phrases that occur during sexual intercourse. The stages are excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution. Along with discussing the four stages of this cycle, the commonalities between men and women are identified. Sexual dysfunctions can happen and are treated. There are five sexual dysfunctions known as the hypoactive sexual desire disorder, female sexual arousal disorder, male erectile disorder, orgasmic disorder, and premature ejaculation disorder. All these will be explained in the following text. The first stage of the sexual response cycle is the excitement phase. It is characterized by the erection in the male, vagnial lubrication in the female, myotonia (muscle tension), and an increase in blood pressure and heart rate in male and females.
