Judgments and Consequences in To Kill A Mockingbird Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The 1960's displays lots of racism and poverty, especially in the south. This was also the time of the Great Depression and Civil Rights Movement. People were extremely judgmental about certain things. In the film, To Kill a Mockingbird, we see the many lessons two children, Scout and Jem, learn because of racial injustice. We also see just how cruel people can become to fit into their society. Anyone, whatever their race, who is perceived as strange, different, odd, or other are treated differently. The most important lesson though, is that people should always accept others for what they are, despite any differences. People often do and say things before rationally thinking about the consequences and how it affects not only them, but others as well.
The film is set in Alabama and is told from a child's point of view. The innocence portrayed as Scout and Jem find out for themselves just what kind of neighborhood they live in offsets some of the harsh consequences they go through later.
