The article is aimed towards stressing the need for replacing the traditional functional orientation of OM with a new cross-functional one of Process Management.
He begins by discussing the traditional definition of Operations Management which sees OM from a traditional functional perspective. Next, the definitions of Process and Process management are discussed where the author supplies his own definitions of the terms.
In the next segment of the article the author tries to highlight the importance of Cross functional or Interdisciplinary Perspective for OM by explaining how the transaction cost economics of earlier periods led to the focus being on functional areas.
