"All Quiet on the Western front"
"All quiet on the Western front", by Erich Maria, provided me with a vivid depiction of the horrors of WW1. It provided with me with insight on the fighting soldiers and how they suffered throughout the war and the great impact that the war had on these young fighters. The primary purpose of this novel is to illustrate the deleterious effects that the Great War had on the vulnerable souls of the German soldiers. For instance, the soldiers were forced to live in unsanitary conditions. They lived in filthy barracks and which often had mice and rotting corpses infested with lice. All in all, the conditions were dreadful and incomprehensible. Paul Baumer is the main character of this novel that I feel for throughout reading this novel, because Paul suffered greatly during the war.
