When you hear the name, George Washington Carver, one's mind automatically thinks about the peanut. George Washington Carver made numerous contributions in the field of agriculture. All George Washington Carver wanted was to be educated and he was determined to find knowledge in whatever adventure he set forth on. George Washington Carver spent his life learning and conducting research to help others become successful. Mariah Watkins, Carver's friend and one time landlord, told him, "You must learn all you can, then go back out into the world and give your learning back to the people (Wikipedia, 2009)." Childhood George Washington Carver was born a slave in Diamond Grove, Missouri in 1864. He lived on a farm with his mother and siblings that belonged to Moses and Susan Carver. While he was a baby, George, along with his mother and sister, was kidnapped. Moses Carver exchanged a horse for the safe return of George. His mother and sister were never heard from again.
