To think of life without a government and exactly how it would present itself is almost impossible. To rely on nature for our societal structure and values over some order of government is quite difficult to picture for anybody within a governmental system. People may fear this mode of thought most probably because they see it as dangerous or less secure than a government structure. Others may be attracted to this mode because they see government as the real danger and may believe lack of government is the most secure structure. Overall, it is difficult for citizens of the governmental system to decide indefinitely if society would really improve in a structure of nature without a government. The following will discuss the role of government in human society. Thomas Hobbes is a 17th century philosopher who published a famous work called "Leviathan." In his writings he refers to society without government as a "state of nature."
