The rhetorical strategies Martin Luther King uses in his Letter from Birmingham Jail, are used to emphasize the need for justice. More importantly, paragraphs thirteen and fourteen, describe the importance in urgency of changing segregation laws. King uses rhetorical strategies such as similes, symbolism, repetition, and personification to convey his message. King uses similes various times throughout the passage, but most specifically when he's emphasizing that "justice too long delayed is justice denied". He illustrates this when he's comparing the political freedom Africa and Asia are gaining to black people being able to simply sit at a lunch counter. King uses phrases such as "Asia and Africa are moving with jet-like speed" and "we still creep at horse-and-buggy like pace". He uses symbolism when saying "the cup of endurance runs over", and "plunged into the abyss of despair". By this King is trying to emphasize that there is a point when the black people collectively will no longer conform with being mistreated unequally, and no matter how much endurance they might have,......
