Walking into a local K-Mart is less than a perfect experience because the customer service is poor. A consumer with the online name of Rose Lee complains "[Kmart] seems to think six people can run a store: one on checkouts, one at service desk, one in jewelry, one in electronics, one on the floor, and one in receiving" (my3cents.com, 2006, 1). Another comment from Noodlehead, who is 100% in agreement, complains about long lines, angry customers, and few cashiers (my3cents.com, 2006, 7). The atmosphere of a K-Mart store does not compare with the competitors. Consumers enjoy the inviting atmosphere at Target and short lines and helpful staff at Wal-Mart. Kmart, who is renowned for the blue light special, excelled as the low cost department store through the eighties and into the nineties. The aging giant has been usurped by Wal-Mart as the low cost leader and Kmart must adapt to the current market in which consumers expect exceptional customer service along with the low prices. In order for Kmart to remain successful, training and selection of ideal employees is extremely important......
