Log of a Cowboy by Andy Adams Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Andy Adams was born in Indiana and his parents were pioneers. Andy helped out with the horses and cows on the family farm growing up during the Civil War. He then moved to Texas in the early 1880s for ten years herding cattle on the western trail. He later moved to Colorado and began gold-mining. He ended up in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he died. These experiences helped him base his fiction book on what really happened in his lifetime. The Log of a Cowboy is a fiction book based on actual events. It tells about a young cowboy that helped to drive 3,000 longhorn cattle from Brownsville, Texas to Montana. This occurred in 1882 on the United States Western Plains when he was only sixteen years old. Andy wrote this to show what it was really like for a cowboy in this time. The characters in this book were used to describe the many hardships that a cowboy went through during these trails. On the trail, the characters told stories to help entertain them.
