Counterargument to a call for unity Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

"A Call For Unity" is a text written by eight clergymen from Birmingham about Negro demonstrations that had happened during the civil rights movement. The clergymen judge the demonstrations and the demonstrations and use poor arguments and weak skills to support their point of view. Not little can be said in defense of the Negro community, in particular of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Appealing to the Negroes to go to the courts for justice, these men did not take into consideration all the struggles that the Negroes had to undergo in the past centuries. The clergymen criticized the demonstrations led by the negroes, deemed them as "violent and full of hatred" and pointed out that they should not have been led by outsiders, referring to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Moreover, they accused these demonstrations of being unwise and untimely and appealed to the Negroes to wait longer. To the end of the letter, the Birmingham clergymen urge the police forces to take action into stopping these demonstration and the Negro citizens to withdraw from them.
