1. INTRODUCTION Food is one of the basic requirements for life so logically it is a big part of people¡¦s lives. Nobody can live without food as food creates energy that allows people to stay alive. Countries with a good food supply often have a better developed social and cultural structure that allows society to advance. However, even today, there are still many countries in this world which do not have enough food for people to eat, especially in developing countries. That leads to lots of people who may suffer or die. Moreover, throughout history, natural and man-made problems have resulted in thousands or sometimes even millions of people being under-nourished or even dying. (Scrimshaw, 1987) This is what is considered as famine. What is famine? Famine can be mainly defined as the failure of food production. It could lead to high mortality rates due to starvation and disease. (Cox, 1981) Food crisis also is one of the problems which could lead to starvation and to famine.
