Negative Representations of Adults in the Media Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

What do we perceive an adult to be? Someone who is biologically mature? Somebody capable of reproduction? Or somebody who has reached the legal age of maturity e.g. 18? Anybody who can fit into any of those three definitions can be classified as an adult. However film makers portray an adult as one who has a family or is an authority figure with power and credibility, making it easy for film makers to construct an adult as a villain. This represents a positive outlook on the younger character which, in turn, reflects a successful script in the eyes of the adolescent. Examples of such scripts are "Meet the Parents" and "Mean Girls". A textual resource called "Matilda" also provides valid evidence. In 'Meet the Parents' (2000), Greg Focker finds love and must meet his girlfriend's parents. Unluckily for Greg, his girlfriend's dad is an ex CIA agent, hence the tagline of the movie "First comes love, Then comes the interrogation".
