Manifest Destiny Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The idea of Manifest Destiny was a heavy influence in America in the 1800's. This idea was the reason for the more rapid expansion of people from the East of the United States to the Western frontier. Manifest Destiny itself was not an official act but it inspired the passing of other acts like the Homestead Act that also encouraged the colonization of the West. John O'Sullivan was the first man to write about Manifest Destiny in his newspaper article about Texas annexation. He suggested that by moving West and colonizing there that America could become a political power. The first major step toward this idea of Manifest Destiny was with the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Also, with the discovery of gold in some states, more people started to move out west. This idea was to help white settlers and America prosper but Manifest Destiny was the worse thing to ever happen to the Native Americans.
