Morality Play Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The novel "Morality Play", by Barry Unsworth, takes place in the 14th century in England and enlightens mainly themes like art and religion, but also oppression - by the church and it's corruption. It is a story that shows us how people in the everyday life take different roles on, but also in plays. In this essay I will not make a typical analysis of the story itself, but instead make an analysis of two main characters in the story. Along with this I will try to point out how and where the view of life is different, by taking these two characters, Martin and Nicolas, into a comparison. The whole story is starting out by Nicolas, who is the narrator in the story, running into a group of travelling players. At this point we are told that he is on the run from his life as monk. The players accept Nicolas in the group. Their way of making a living is by travelling around in different towns, acting - mainly parts from the Bible. Nicolas is a sinful fleeing monk, as he has been unfaithful to his faith by committing mortal sins, such as drinking, gambling and having sex outside ......
